Home security systems have been around for a while but the systems are evolving at a rapid rate and are being innovating to a high measure by smart phone technology. What used to be for security only for those with the resources to afford it is now affordable for the masses and ready for it's next evolution. For around 15 to 25 dollars a month you can now get a very good monitoring system for your home and keep your family or yourself safe from what ever's out there! The first question is...Do I need a security system? And the next question would be.. If so, which one fits me?

Well to answer the first question, Yes you probably do need some type of home security system. The reason to have home security is to deter crime so according to an alarm system report, over 2 million home burglaries are reported in the United States each year and, on average, a burglary of a home in the U.S. occurs every 13 seconds-or about four burglaries a minute, 240 an hour, and nearly 6,000 a day. And crime rates are not decreasing so it is inevitable that you could experience some type of crime at your home at some point in your life.

The second question is not so quick and easy to answer. There are so many systems on the market at this time it is quite a task to determine which is best for you. To get an idea what might be a good start is to decide if you want to have a professional installation or do it yourself approach. Again it is a money thing because the pro's will probably do a free consultation but they will bombard you with up sell items and drive up your monthly costs. So think about the size of your home and how many entrances and exits there are, how accessible they are and that should tell you if you should have a professional come in or if you can do it yourself.

Here's the deal...Statistics paint an interesting picture as to how home security systems and alarm monitoring can affect crime rates and home burglaries. Fifty-nine percent of home burglaries occur during the day while residents are at work or at school, and homes with a lot of cover, such as from trees, fences, and gardens, are most commonly broken into. Most break-ins occur in July and August, and February has the least amount of break-ins on average. Statistics show that more than 95 percent of burglaries involve break-in by force, such as by breaking a window or door lock. In many cases, a security system could prevent homes from becoming a part of these statistics.

9 out of 10 burglars interviewed said that if they encountered an alarm or home security system, they would not attack the home. According to Alarms.org, Homes without a security system are 300% more likely to be burglarized. (Source: https://www.alarms.org/burglary-statistics/)  Thus, in addition to precautions like window locks and deadbolts on doors, a security system is a prime candidate for your home safety options. 83% admitted that they specifically look to see if there's an alarm; 60% would change their mind if there was one installed. (Source: https://www.alarms.org/burglary-statistics/) The proof is in the numbers...I hope this helps you to determine your need to keep your family safe in your home!
